Notes:
A number of quarries were situated along the bank of the Colligen River approximately 1km north of Dungarvan. Most are in the townland of Shandon but one was in Ballynamuck East immediately inland of Shandon Island and it was bisected by the Fishguard & Rosslare Railway. The largest was just north of Shandon House and contained Shandon Cave; other quarries also contained caves as marked on the OS maps. The stone was primarily extractted for lime burning but also occasionally used for building as at Dungarvan Courthouse. The quarries are now infilled and are sites of industrial complexes.References
