Notes:

Pale grey limestone composed of calcium carbonate, deposited in horizontal "beds"during the Carboniferous geological period 350 million years ago. Much limestone is used in Ardfert Cathedral. It is likely that limestone from three Formations was used for early buildings in the area. A large quarry in the Cloonagh Limestone Formation is active.
