Notes:
A dark-grey muddy limestone. Kinahan (1887, p. 192) remarked 'that this appears to be the stone with which Holycross Abbey was built.' This seems surprising as the abbey is 5 km southwest of Thurles and is located on an area of limestone which itself was quarried extensively from the 1830s onwards if not before.References
