Notes:

A Franciscan mendicant friary located very close to the shore near the southern part of Killala Bay. Constructed in its entirety in pale grey limestone the walls are of squared and punched rubble laid in courses with well dressed limestone for doorways, window tracery (switchline or Y-shaped in the triple-light East Window), quoins, arches and cloisters. The arches of the latter are plain, of two orders, and supported on stadium cross-sectioned columns with expanded bell-style capitals and dumb-bell bases. The alley ceiling of the cloister is vaulted in stone similar in style to that at Askeaton. The fine oolitic character of the local stone allows for superior stoneworking in these dressed elements and as seen in the stoup located between two doorways. The west door is later with a carved keystone and horizontal moulded lintel.
