Notes:

A large active quarry sometimes referred to as Paulstown Quarry on account of being adjacent to the town. In operation since the 1840s, it greatly expanded during the ownership of Feelystone of Boyle and now the owners, Brachot, extract approximately 25,000 square metres of stone per annum. The stone which is either pure or fossiliferous, with corals and large brachiopods, is marketed as 'Irish Blue Limestone' or 'Kilkenny Blue Limestone' and much is exported to continental Europe (van Roekel 2011). It has many applications for building stone, paving (both external and internal) and sculptural work. Limestone from the quarry was used for the floor of Coventry Cathedral built after World War 2 ('Stones for Coventry' The Economist 26.05.1962, p. 763).
