Notes:
Shoreline quarrying of stone at the Scout's Hiding Place, Harrlock on the west side of the Hook Peninsula, along strike from the exposure at Carivan Head. Millstones were cut from the tops of beds of Old Red Sandstone conglomerate, moved to the 'ould key', a natural sloping bedding plane (Colfer 2010, p. 88, fig. 4) and loaded onto flat barges which were floated away at high tide. 12 finished or unfinished millstones remain at the site (Colfer 2010, p. 88). Rutty (1772) and Colfer (2010) describe the fabrication of the millstones. Also used for feeding troughs (Colfer 2004, p. 181).References
