Notes:
A metamorphosed quartz-rich sandstone in which the sand grains have been fused together by heat and pressure. The quartzite is flaggy and therefore commonly used for paving as it easily splits into slabs. It is found in thin beds interstratified with schists and marble, all of which belong to the Dalradian Supergroup. The Dalradian Supergroup is an igneous and meta-sedimentary rock succession that lies in a NE-SW trending belt extending from the Shetland Islands, through Scotland and into Northern Ireland, which was deposited on the eastern margin of Laurentia between the late Neoproterozoic (~800 Ma) and Early Cambrian (~510 Ma).References
