Notes:

A fissile, fine grained, grey-green slate quarried south of Portroe in the townslands of Corbally and Curragh. It splits easily into thin sheets that were ideal for roofing. These slate quarries were the most extensive in Ireland and the product was widely used. During Victorian times Killaloe slates were popular but extraction suffered from competition with North Wales slates.
