Crystalline, semi-compact, uniform, durable, easily worked and takes a good polish. Was formerly worked for tombstones. The limestone of Sligo was, in general, considered to be an inferior building stone due to its calp-like nature. The beds at Ballysadare, together with those at Lough Arrow, were the best in the county.
