Notes:

Gaol consisting of a central Prison Governor's House with radiating buildings which housed inmates. The roof is slated with Killaloe Slates which was also used as gravemarkers for prisoners buried in the complex. On the OSI 6" map (First Edition) there is a small quarry immediately adjacent to the western wall of the gaol complex; this was considerably enlarged in the later 1888-1913 25" map. There is no evidence that stone from this adjacent quarry was used for construction of the gaol. It is now infilled and partially built over. In 1839 funding of £18,000 was set aside for its construction (Leinster Express 26.01.1839)
